| As one of the most important figures of postwar European art Lucio Fontana (1899-1968) is also one of the contradictory of his time. Fontana is known for with the radical gesture of his cuts and perforations monochrome screens. With the violation of the traditional image surface, he opened the illusionistic representation of the space a new dimension of the concrete experience of the space in the picture. The pictorial space is so for the viewer as concretely felt experience space and combines both form and content of individual species. Fontana, however, remained in his universalist thinking life to the traditional genres of drawing, painting and sculpture as a starting point. The content of Fontana's works closely with the science and the new media of his time and are thus also refer to the reciprocal relationship between tradition and modernity in his work.
