Profile

What`s on in Munich with pictures or without pictures

He cut his teeth on contemporary art, its producers and collectors. Finally, Matthias Jahn, 26, is son of Fred Jahn, for many decades, a veteran in the German and international art world. There was an endless coming and going of the famous artists of his time at the-Jahn's. But Jahns offspring had set of his mind not only to watch the production of contemporary art from the sideline, but try it out himself. After his graduation in 2002 and a one-year internship in the etching and photo-workshops of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich Matthias Jahn decided to apply there for a study. Karl Imhof was his first professor, after his retirement, the junior Jahn landed in the class of Förg. It cost him two years to realize that painting is not his true calling. "The time was not wasted," Matthias Jahn is srongly convinced, "I have learned really a lot, but above all come to know many young talents on an equal base and appreciate them, with many, I am still close friends." The basis for a successful gallerist carreer had been laid.

Matthias Jahn has found his true profession since autumn 2008. A few friends had helped him, transforming the storage rooms of the Fred Jahn Gallery in Munich Baaderstr. 56b in a spacious exhibition area within a few months. In October 2008 time had come: In his first exhibition the fresh gallerist presented new works of his young artist friends Michael Biber , Ioan Grosu and Matthias Lehrberger . It was a resounding success: the response in the Munich art scene was overwhelming and the exhibition was almost sold out. "This has certainly also contributed to the bonus by my father," Jahn admits gratefully.

This inner circle is still the core of his list of artists. Since then Hedwig Eberle a Scully-student who also lives in Munich, and the artist Mirko Tschauner a sculptor from Cologne rounded the gallery program. His latest discovery Jahn presented in autumn before last year: the Cologne painter and sculptor Lutz Driessen . The recently started year 2010 will be the first year of professional gallery work with six and up to eight art exhibitions a year. Matthias Lehrberger opens the round on 21 January who counted to the inner circle in the network by Matthias Jahn from the beginning. The gallery owner wants to expand prudently his program and his list of artists mostly with artists of his generation Whereby it is important to him that they remain a close community.
